Yes it's a cursed lot. Does it have to happen 90% of the time when the lot is cursed?

@muhannad1988 No it shouldn't but it already has a bug report so I'm merging your report :D

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.77.146.1030 (64 Bit)
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them except bust the dust and throwback fitness
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have sims make jams on the stove; perhaps try with many different stoves and skill levels.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sim catches fire a lot while making jams on the stove, despite high quality stove and high cooking skill. Sometimes several fires in a row.
What do you expect to see? Much less fires.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
I didn't think anything weird of this at first but it is getting suspicious by now. My sim, when making jams and such on the stove, causes fires quite frequently. This became more suspicious to me as my sim's cooking skill increased over time and yet the fires are still just as common, and furthermore I have replaced the stove with better and more expensive stoves as my family makes more money and yet the fires are still just as common. I had my sim making cow berry jam just now and four times in a row she caught fire in the middle of the process, despite a good quality stove and a cooking skill of 8.

You don't have a cursed lot challenge or clumsy trait on the Sim do you? Oddly enough, I thought my Sim wasn't getting enough fires canning - normally my Sim will catch fire at least once if I don't have them watch the cooking channel or something to level up the cooking skill a few times before they actually use the stove. But I had one Sim just go for it and start canning. Not just once, but several times in a row, every day. Sometimes twice a day. And it was almost two Sim weeks before the stove (and not the Sim) finally broke and caught fire...
It could just be extremes of what's possible with random fires? I was using the Cottage Living stove.

Is the lot in an industrial neighbourhood? (From Eco Lifestyle) I find that no matter how great my appliances are or how good my sim's skills are, industrial lots cause more fires.

@PipMenaceAh, yep. Cursed lot trait. For some reason I thought it only gave sims those voodoo moodlets. Didn't know about the fires. Thanks. Probably seemed to affect canning more often cos I was doing more canning than cooking. All good.
