Game unable to recognize my recording device (mic)

I am using an all in one headset, 3.5mm jacks into the front panel of my PC. They are recognized my audio drivers as the front panel. The game doesn't recognize a microphone, and changing to voice activation does not show any movement in the threshold selection. Even setting the proper device in Origin's own Voice settings did not fix this. See Dxdiag for other details.

a bunch of people have this problem. what worked for me was as follows

Step 1: have the game open and close it

Step 2: disable and re enable your mic in windows

Step 3: do a mic test in origin

Step 4: launch the game and do another mic test in origin thru the overlay

and the mic should now be working in game

It still didn't work. when I first tried it I thought it worked because when I launched the game and opened the audio settings, I can see the bar on 'Open Mic Record Threshold' jumping around when I talked so i started a match but nobody can hear me. I went back to the Open Mic Record Threshold and it didn't move when I spoke
