[OPEN] Sims lose their first and last names

I don't know if this is relevant to anyone, but I was having a specific issue where newly born sims would be missing their surname.
I discovered that this specific issue is caused by the "no city living names" mod.

I know that the name issue mentioned isn't mod related, but just incase anyone has had issues with surnames, that could possibly be a reason.

After figuring out why my save file was broken, I found out that Cottage Living broke my save file to a point where I couldn't play it anymore, it wouldn't let me click on pause/play, in BnB mode and save it.
It was BAAAD...
I'm so glad that I was able to fix my save file with a backup file before Cottage Living broke my file.
I was finally able to try and change the last names on some of my married sims and I was able to change them but as soon as I changed back into edit World or changed the instance, they got changed back to their OG last names which sucks really bad...
I'm trying to ignore the last names but if you've been playing a specific save file for a while and want to have a realistic family line/story, it's hella annoying and just wish that EA could fix that asap!

Noticed today that my game is also infected by this awful bug. Some names are totally gone, some only have the surename and some only the first name. I can't believe how much this latest patch & pack broke this time. The game is hardly playable anymore and it gets worse and worse with each patch. And having all those new Cottage Living bugs as already mentioned in other bug reports gives me headaches. 40€ just for more and more bugs.

The same thing happened to me weeks ago, but it went away after a few days. I just went into my game today and noticed it’s back again. I’m not sure when it happened because I’ve been in build mode for the past few days, but it’s really frustrating. I’m now repairing my game for the second time. Renaming them seems to work, but I’m terrified to save anything because I’m worried that this will keep happening. 

I really don’t want to delete this save. I’ve worked hard on it since 2017.

Thanks to the tool Show Sims4 Info I could track them all down ( Sims with name issues). From 370 Sims in my game, 30 of them lost either their whole names, first or surenames.

The tool also spits out a Warning log file with the ID numbers of all the Sims with missing name issues. - very helpful.

I have already fixed 6 nameless sims (not showing in these picture examples) and the names seem to stay after re-adding them, but it would be nice if this problem could be fixed without sending all the players through this, because most of us can't even remember what their names were. Luckly I have a name list from all of my ever created Sims saved on an extern hard drive. The good ol' Goth family for example have also lost their complete names.

I have all Sims in my save saved in my library, so that is what I am using to fix the names. I was fixing them when I saw them in game, but I might do a search to see if there are more I haven't found yet using that mod, thank you for the suggestion @LuvMySimz

@babuchas01GREAT! So do I. I have them all saved up in my library and re-save them whenever I do some changes to them, and then delete previous ones to prevent doubles. I am extremely accurate with my Sims which is why I have an extra list with all their names, location and Id numbers. I've done that long before I knew about the sims4 info tool. This tool can be very helpful for people not micro managing their game

Just checked a few other custom Sim family names to make extra sure and what do you know!? the game even renamed some of my sims! Can you believe this?! WHY EA???

Now I have to check ALL of my customised Sims, not only the nameless ones that I've already fixed. Man what a mess!

Breaking the game for me really... How does all this happen, do they not do any testing before release, or are we the testing bed ?????
