@CobbleWoodsMy sim also lives in a microhome. I tried what you suggested and moved the cake outside to a large open area, and my sim was able to age.

This has started after 1.68 patch. The cakes don't age up my sims, no matter where I place them, on the table or on the counter. It is so frustraiting that ea can't cure bugs without creating other new ones.

According to the patch notes for 1.69.57 this has now been fixed.

"Happy Birthday to all! Sims will now properly Age Up. Adulting is hard but they will make it, don’t worry."

 

I have not yet however had time to investigate if that is the case.

Fixed in Patch 1.69.57/ 1.35
