I do rotational play, and I'll often see one of my other Sims busking in the city (he has a high guitar skill level so I assume the game "assigns" him as a busker?) but everytime I return to play him he has multiple (at least 10) guitars spawned in his inventory. This is everytime I switch back to him, so his inventory is always overloaded and the only way to get rid of the guitars is to sell them which gets him rich without any work.

March 2017
Non-active Sims with violin and guitar skill will no longer silently horde violins and guitars in their inventories.
- So, we need you to play at this event, do you have your own instrument?
- No.
- Ok then, we’ve had a few of our violins go missing recently, so if you could just make sure to return this when your shift is over, that’d be great.
- No.
- Ok then, I’ll just put this violin in your pocket. Are you comfortable with the violin?
- No.
- Ok, then, why don’t you take this guitar too, just in case. Soooo, I guess that’ll be all.
This was fixed in Patch 1.28.25

I came to report the multiple guitar issue and saw this thread so I'll just append my report to it.
Issue
Multiple guitars in Sofia Bjergsen's personal inventory.
Steps you took for Issue to occur
In my game I've had Sofia marry Hugo Villareal and move into the Villarel household, which is one of 4 households that I play in this pre-patch, pre-install CL save. When I rotated back to the Villareal lot after playing the other 3 families after installing CL, I found 6 guitars in her personal inventory. Five of them were the Pied Piper acoustic and the 6th was a carved guitar. While there is a woodworking bench on the Villareal lot, she is only level 1 handiness and shouldn't even have been able to carve it.

Where does the bug occur ?
Existing save after seeing her "busk" many times in San Myshuno. I did check her inventory in a new save and there weren't any guitars but I had only played it a few sim days and had not played the Bjergsen family. She is also still a teen in that new save, not a married Adult in a family I play on a rotational basis.

she is the main busker in my game to until I go to play her, but that wont be for a few real weeks. last time I played her family the game didn't generate another busker either.
but I digress. My game spawned three cakes in the family inventory after having an aging up at a restaurant, there was also a microphone, none of my sims have the klepto trait. also one time when my kids were doing homework in the community area a festival was appearing and I get a pop up saying that some items are in my inventory as they were in the way of a festival, when I look I have a trash bin a lamp and some garland lamps. lol

One of my sims sold 100 violins, now the household own over 500k The problem is the lag that happens when you are in a lot with many musicians or a club. Hope this will be fixed soon

Happening to me too. The game doesn't seem to check if the busking Sims already have a guitar or violin in their inventory so it generates a new one on them every time they busk. As other posters have said, if you play rotational you can see this in action. When you rotate to a Sim with high skill in guitar or violin they will have dozens of instruments in their inventories. I do believe this is causing inventory overload lag as someone else mentioned. If you happen to be on a lot with several musician Sims there will be noticeable pauses and lag.
This is is sorta reminiscent of the Sims 3 issue where hundreds of items were generated into Sims' inventories. I really don't want to have to constantly load up every household in town and clear out guitars and violins (also paintings and sculptures for artistic Sims). One of my Sims randomly had dozens of frogs in his inventory...I'm guessing the game must have had him as a flea market vendor or something.
I can see this potentially becoming a very critical issue over time so I really hope this gets fixed soon.

I have five different households all in the same save file. I have been playing a new Sim to enjoy the apartment living and have enjoyed seeing some of these Sims around town playing their guitars or violins for tips.
When I went back to playing one of these other households the two Sims with high guitar skills (the same ones I've seen busking around town) had about 30 guitars each in their inventories! Another Sim in another household had a similar number of violins.
Nothing game-breaking here - I just sold all of the extras for a boat-load of simoleons - but I'm sure it's not supposed to happen that way...

I just noticed in my Sims game that the game is creating musical instruments in the Sim's inventory. I believe this behavior started with the City Living patch or EP. Creating large numbers of instruments in multiple Sims' inventories is likely a source of lag in the game and/or slower loading times.
As far as I can tell, it seems to be linked to the new ability for a Sim to play an instrument at the San Myshuno outdoor venues. I have several played Sims who have high music skills and who can be seen playing fairly regularly when I visit those venues while playing other Sims. (I have multiple households that I play rotationally.)
So to break it down: I go visit one of the festival areas with Sim A. While there, I see Sim B (also one of my played Sims, but from a different household) playing the guitar. Later (after a fair amount of play), I rotate to play the household of Sim B. I look in the personal inventory of Sim B and find 16 guitars instead of just one! (16 is just an arbitrary example, though I did see some large numbers. 22 of one guitar, I think. I expect it may depend on how much play time passes with visits to said lots.)
It's not a bad way to make a few extra Simoleons, selling off those extra instruments (especially my violinist, who got copies of the 15k top-end violin!) but as I said, I expect this is contributing to the lag and long load times in the game, and could cause problems down the road.
Edit: Just found out this issue has been reported already. I didn't find it in my own search as I was searching for 'instruments' or 'musical instruments' rather than specifically 'guitars.' (I do know that it happens with violins too.) Please feel free to merge if needed. The original report is here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/OPEN-Multiple-Guitars-added-to-NPC-inventories/m-p/5...

I've just run into this issue too. While I did search, I didn't find this topic until after creating one of my own. (I'd searched on 'instruments' and 'musical instruments' but didn't think to try 'guitars' specifically as I've seen it happen with other instruments like violins.) Anyway, if you want to merge these or whatever, my own post is here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/Game-w-City-Living-is-creating-instruments-in-Sim-inventory/td-p...
