can’t merge households - console Xbox X

I have exactly the same issue. What can be done?

My screen is frozen, was moving a sim into my household who was not in world into my household ans when move him in, the checkmark and "x" both are grayed out and I have to turn off my computer to do anything. This has happened twice now.

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Get a roommate. Romance/befriend the roommate until the option to move in with household is available. Use the option and move the roommate to your household. Accept the transfer.
What happens when the bug occurs? I asked my roommate to join the family. The Split from Household and Move box displays (see attachment). I then moved the male roommate to join my character on the left. His funds were automatically transferred to my character's funds. I clicked the tick mark at the bottom right of the box to accept the move. The transfer does not complete, neither can I cancel the box etc. I have to close the game via Task Manager and this happens every time. I don't want to evict him as a roommate first because my character will lose friendship etc.
What do you expect to see? I expect the roommate status to disappear, and the move should be completed on acceptance click.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them a long time ago.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Happens on console also. Tried in a new clean save and can't get it to work from any interaction.

Same. I've had to ctrl-alt-del to exit the game because it gets stuck on the "Combine/Split Household" screen. I can tick the boxes and move people around, but clicking "Confirm" grays out the options and it never progresses beyond that screen. It's happened in the same household multiple times, and it appears my Sim's poor turtledove will be left out in the cold in the long term. :3

Also, as several other people have mentioned, the problem seems to be a Sim marked as "Not In World" being moved into an existing household; I tried moving the Sim I created into the "Not In World" household, which ended up coming to the same impasse. I have yet to try pairing up two different Sims from two different existing households, so I guess I'll try it and see what happens.

I think I found a workaround for this bug that worked for me, I would suggest everyone save before doing it so as not to lose your progress but what I did was I had my sim invite her bf Panya over and I did four interactions with him and then asked him to join my household and when the screen came up Instead of adding him to mine I added my sim to his household and then the interaction progressed through and I had to reselect my apartment as the home they moved into and it went through. I didn’t select to sell all my furniture so unfortunately I had to replace everything but her bf is now moved in. I know there has been a workaround for moving sims in through manage worlds but if the sim your looking to move in doesn’t show in manage worlds/households like Panya doesn’t then using this option should work.

Just encountered this issue with Panya Li, my sim's boyfriend. But then I decided to test with Johnny Zest and the option to ask him to join my household doesn't even appear, even though my sim has 100% friendship and romantic relationship with him as well. Really frustrating issue.

I am doing a challenge that requires my sims to move out from the household but the past few times I’ve tried to move out the sim will get on the phone but then nothing happens, causing me to have to remove them from household with cheats. I’ve reset the game several times and saved the game.

It does work if I try it with the computer but there’s a small bug. Whenever you click on how much money to transfer it says “neighborhood name”. Not a big deal or game changer, just thought it was worth mention
