Same issue here too. Happens no matter what, even uninstalled the entire game and nothing changed when I put them all back on.

On an old game save.  Up until right now laundry has been carried completely fine.  Editing this post as I first thought this was only happening during thunder storms, but it just happened and no storm present.  Its the same way the sims used to carry laundry in the old bug.  Old game save, but hasn't been happening until now

Sounds like the bug in [LAUNDRY LIST] [LDSP] Animation to put laundry in washing machine is glitched - Answer HQ (ea.com) That bug is on the current Laundry List (pun not intended), which means it hasn't been fixed yet but will probably be fixed in the next update.

Fixed an issue where an animation clipped when Sims were loading their laundry
machines. Because having your clothes go through you is awkward, are Sims made of
fabric? I don’t think so.
