[OPEN] [IL] Conservationist: Mermaids can't Survey ocean wildlife

I’ve found a way without using the ocean! 

You just need to talk to someone and ‘Spread conservation awareness’ and it completes the task anyway!!

One of my sims is not a mermaid and can click on Survey Wildlife, but the task never completes. I've done it over and over and it won't complete. Do I need to make a separate report or could this be related?

Been trying this too. My mermaid doesn’t have the “Survey Ocean Floor,” option either. Maybe it’s dependent upon the logic or fitness skills?

@MezzoBlaze Ahh! But free diving or taking underwater photos (not sure which) fulfilled the Daily Task successfully!

Played with this a bit too. The daily task seems to be able to be completed by diving or taking photos by the red bouy mentioned in above comments.

However, do NOT Work from Home while at the Fisheries Specialist level of the Marine Biologist branch! As far as I can tell, the task “Survey Ocean Wildlife in Mua Pel’am” cannot be completed in the same way. Or at all for that matter.

No amount of Surveying Ocean Floor (available after unknown requirements are fulfilled, possibly reaching Fisheries Specialist level), or free diving, or taking photos or any other diving activity managed to complete the work from home task. 

Why on earth a mermaid would be unable to work as a Marine Biologist (a natural career choice IMHO) is completely beyond me. I’d call that a game design fail. I mean, non-mer-person sims can’t seem to see the tails anyway. Someone didn’t think the nuances of mermaids through very well I think.

YEAH I’ve maxed my mermaid out to the final level for the marine biologist line and ive never been able to get “work from home” to work. 

There’s only one point where it lets you just “Enthuse about Marine Biology” but taking pictures does not work for whatever reason.

Same problem. I'm playing with Nalani, who obviously is a mermaid. She was just promoted to Fisheries Specialist (Marine Biologist 8), and her work-from-home tasks are: 1) Survey Ocean Wildlife in Mua Pel'am and 2) Snorkel in Mua Pel'am.

I already know she can't snorkel, so that's one task going unfinished, but trying to see if anything would possibly trigger the other, since as stated, the traditional Survey Ocean Wildlife is greyed out for the same snorkeling reason.

So far I've tried the Survey Ocean Floor option, as well as Take Underwater Photos, Survey at a fishing sign and a taro root, no luck. I'll keep trying various conservationist actions in Mua Pel'am, will get back here to edit if something worked, but looks like today's work is going to go unfinished completely.

Perhaps mermaids could be coded so that they don't get any work tasks that require snorkeling?

You can advance the career without performing the function. Daily tasks are not required but they do boost your performance.

I tried the "survey ocean floor" option but that did not complete the work task of "survey ocean wildlife" so that doesnt work unfortunately

I've just got this too, as it is I can't see why Mermaids CAN'T just happily swim around watching the fish at the boueys without the snorkeling equipment anyway, so I don't even know what's up with the Snorkeling option being grayed out.  I get Scuba, but yeah, pretty pissed. I have an Ariel who was doing the marine thing and now I can't work from home because the option is grayed out on the Survey Ocean Wildlife. 

How did this make it past testing? I'm sorry, but this is terrible design.  I'm loving the mermaids other than THIS.
