I have this problem as well.  Didn't even realize it til someone else reported it.  Mine is auto light....when my sim went into the room it didn't light.  I tried to light it manual and it was a puff and then nothing.

I have some partly good news for this.

For those of you planning to get Seasons: The bug does not occur with seasons installed

For those that don't: Don't get it just because of this (there's other reasons to get it), wait for EA to patch this.

Hi! yes i am having the same issue, although i am using a Macbook Pro. 

The fireplaces that were previously upgraded to auto-light won't turn on either, when a sim enters the room.

I too just noticed the issue i tried to light a fire place over and over and over an it refused to light so far i only have the vampire pack
