[NEEDS SAVES] Can't clean dishes cause of missing trash can (there is one)

I have this problem too, from time to time. It will say there is no trashcan, yet there is one. Sometimes putting the trashcan in your household inventory for a little while, then putting it back out will help. If you put it in the inventory and immediately bring it back out, that however, does not seem to fix it.

Letting a little time pass in game, before bringing the trashcan back out seems to usually fix it (or buying a new one).

What happens when the bug occurs? Whenever I try to make my sims throw something away, I can't select the option because it says "a trash can is required to clean this up" when I do have a trash can.
What do you expect to see? I just want to be able to empty the litter box
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

If I hover over the "empty litter storage" button, I get the message "a trash can is required to clean this up" and I have an inside trash can and an outside trash can. I've tried restarting my game multiple times and selling and re-buying the trashcans but nothing has worked.

Did this bug ever get sorted as to how to fix the problem? I have the same/similar issue and I've been cruising the posts trying to find a solution. 

 - Yes Ive replaced, renewed trash cans. I'v been playing Sims 4 for years and I know how to build and play household and how to set up trash cans. 

 - Yes, I've restarted game

 - yes I've tried leaving the active household and returning. 

 - No I do not have any mods or CC

 - yes I'm playing most updated game version. 

It would be nice if fixes were posted on these forums so those of us with the same bugs can try the posted solutions. Instead I'm spending an hour going through pages of posts that are just more questions instead of answers.

Is it an ongoing problem or just occasional? Because I frequently get “trash can required” or even “trash can or sink required” but then just need to wait 30 seconds and try again and it will work. Might have something to do with what’s in the Sims queue, possibly more frequent if the Sim is on stairs? But not an ongoing consistent problem.

A while back I remember there was a bug where trash cans just stopped working altogether on some lots. Seemed to happen more often for me on places with a lot of pet hair. I managed to clear one lot by buying the indoor trash can that eats/recycles trash and then manually dragging and dropping every bit of trash and every empty plate I could find into it. Once the lot had no trash on it at all, Sims were able to use the trash normally again.

"A Trash Can Is Required" message will no longer display when trash cans are present on the active lot. Get that garbage outta here.
