Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Open a box from the Anniversary quest and receive a duplicate item when you already own the maximum for that item
What do you expect to see? The duplicate being converted into simoleons

I had this issue with the Gargoyle but other players have stated it happened with the cauldron and mirror prizes too.

Best thing would be to contact an EA game advisor about this issue.
You can do so through The Sims Mobile app. Open the side menu, choose the gear icon, then the button with 'Help'.
This will open your browser, scroll down until you see 'Contact Us' and choose 'Technical Support'.

This has happened to me twice. I have opened around ten boxes and did not get Simoleons for duplicates in two occasions.
First time was yesterday evening. I opened a Mega Anniversary Box and got a message saying I won a gargoyle, no compensation in Simoleons. I already have two gargoyles from the Halloween event.
Today 1.45 p.m. UTC +1, I got this message saying I won a cauldron. I already have one from Halloween event. Didn't get Simoleons.

I've encountered this issue as well with the Cauldron. I previously had the cauldron from the halloween event, and receiving it again yesterday from the anniversary box did not convert it to simoleons.
However, duplicate CAS items have turned into simoleons.

I also have this issue. I did contact EA Help, but they told me that they know about this bug and referred me to this page.

The agent I spoke to gave 200 simoleons but knew nothing about the issue. Since they’re reading this thread an update would be nice, I had no clue they knew about it

Timestamp when you received the duplicate item: Not entirely sure since I didn’t realize it was an issue until someone else pointed it out. Between noon and 5pm PST on March 7
