This does not fix the service still running after closing. This issue alone was enough for me to uninstall EA Desktop. I don't want services running in the background that I have to manually go out of my way to kill when I close the software.
Yeah, you're right. On my rig, it's just a temporary workaround (at startup) as the execution of the service is tied to the xbox app if you subscribe to EA Play for example. The EA Desktop App simply just doesn't work if it is disabled completely.
- @Mand1sis Every week I check back here to see if it’s been fixed. Guess I’m still waiting.
Until this is gone, I won’t be installing EA Play. Yup, I uninstalled the stupid bloatware almost a year ago now

Even when set to "manual", the service starts itself up randomly, constantly running in the background, phoning home until the computer is shut off or restarted. There's probably another agent running under a different name starting the other service up.
Genuinely, unapologetically, EA spyware.

EA Desktop. Liked the new look, hate the background service running even when the application is not. Uninstalled within minutes.

Origin has this background service too. Battle.net app too but theirs starts with the app and ends with the app.
