Connection Error at Updates screen

I've been having issues starting the game. When I open the ap, it begins to check for updates and immediatly receives an error stating only "Connection Error" with a Try Again button. I have restarted my device, restarted the local wifi network, and still the error persists. I have seen other posts where people have go so far as to reinstall the game and still faced the issue. The post I have seen dates to November of last year and has zero responses. What can I do to fix this error?
