Black screen after entering the game from lobby then "connection timed out"

Where did the issue occur? Loading into the match from the lobby

What happens when the bug occurs? Kicked from the game and given the error "Connection Timed Out". Only get connection issues with the game. Internet is fine.
What should be happening instead? After entering the game server, I should choose my character and load into the game.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Just click "Ready" in the lobby and it may or may not do it.
I enter the game server from the lobby (which works fine) and instead of going into the character select screen before loading into the game, I get a black screen but audio (teammates in game mic, ambient noise) and movement (compass at the top moves with my mouse) is still functional. I am then kicked from the server back to the lobby and it gives me a an error message saying "connection timed out". There are no internet issues at all, flatmate doesn't have any issues at all despite us being on the same network.
