Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.79.93.1230
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Cottage Living, Snowy Escape, Discover University, Cats & Dogs, Get to Work, Realm of Magic, Strangerville, Paranormal, Tiny Living, Laundry Day
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a Sim and choose an aspiration. Play with them for a while. Save and exit the game. Reopen the game, go to edit household and change the Sim's aspiration. The associated trait won't change.
What happens when the bug occurs? When first choosing an aspiration for the Sim, the associated trait swaps out with the aspiration normally. After saving with the aspiration set and returning to try to change the aspiration, the associated trait gets stuck and won't change.
What do you expect to see? When you change aspirations, the aspiration's trait should also change.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
I did first notice this in a modded game, but when removing all mods & deleting cache & resetting the Sims 4 files still didn't fix the problem, I tried a fresh save - with Mods still off - and got the same result. I've only just noticed this now, after the spa day refresh, but can't say for certain whether or not it was an issue pre-patch.
If you remove the aspiration's trait with cheats, it will appear to be gone, but you'll continue to get related moodlets. Choosing a new aspiration still won't make the new aspiration's trait appear. Going into CAS to choose an aspiration will appear to assign the trait in CAS, but going back to live mode the trait will not appear in the trait panel and the Sim continues to act like they have the old aspiration's trait.
I also tried turning mods back on to remove the related moodlets with MC command center after cheating to remove the trait, but they kept coming back. Specifically - the Home Turf trait would add the hidden cooldown trait if I removed the happy in home neighborhood buff, and if I removed the cooldown the home neighborhood would come back.
This happens for all households, played or previously unplayed, in all my saves. Whatever aspiration trait they have when I try to change the aspiration, they're stuck with.

Previously the aspiration’s associated trait always changed with the aspiration for me (though of course you keep reward traits associated with completing the aspiration) - was that actually a bug instead of now when it doesn’t anymore?
And yes, I’m using the remove_trait cheat and it still acts like it’s there.

No, just one - it’s just that I’d swear the one used to change in my game. I’d have the 3 locked traits that were set when they were made or aged up, then a fourth based on the current aspiration. But perhaps that was the bug and I just never realized. I only just got Sims 4 two years ago and at first was focused on careers not aspirations... so my game may just have been bugged several months in allowing it to change and I thought that was normal.
Still a bug that the remove_trait cheat removes the icon but not the effect.
And, I suppose, that in CAS after using that cheat it looks like you’re getting a new trait when you’re not... but now we’re just into ramifications of cheats so that last one wouldn’t really be an issue.
