Abandon Penalties in Public game.

What happens when the bug occurs? I lost ranked points. Firstly, i clicked ranked mode so that I can inspect what rank some of my friends were. Then i Switched to Play Apex in the lobby. Matchmaking was successful then I was in the game, not knowing that I was in a ranked game. So while in the game, I got downed at Skyhook and I left the game, not knowing that I was in ranked. When i enter the lobby, I got an abandoned penalty as well as a ban for 45 minutes.
What should be happening instead? I should not have lost ranked points because I selected the public lobby (Play Apex)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I have no idea how to answer the question. Everything that took place, I explained it above. I even have video evidence of what happened so I will link it.
