[ARCHIVED] Multitasking Conversation loop

[ Edited ]

I've noticed a bug which seems to occur at random, but when a sim autonomously tries to socialize with a sim engaged in a player directed activity (doing homework/eating food) seems to be a pretty big causes), the game will enter a loop where all sims on the lot are frozen and it'll continuously increase the processor load until the game locks up completely.

The only cures I've found are you can 'sometimes' fix it by finding out which sims are in a conversation and cancel it quickly, if that fails, you can use the ResetSim {FirstName} {LastName} command to reset the sim, or Sims.hard_reset... If even that doesn't work, the only thing that might work is the Testingcheats on command and then shift+click the sim and force reset them.

If you've left the sims running while you've left the room for a while though, the only solution is CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

I've tried removing all mods (I don't have many to start with), and it still does it... It's also been reported on the forums by people who don't even use mods.

@EternalSecrets

Could you please make a new thread with all the exact symptoms you're seeing. I will also need you to remove MCCC and try on vanilla as well.

I'm going to archive this thread as it's become quite a collection of things.

Basically, there should be threads with fill-out template for each freeze issue separately.

Here's a few we already have that can be reused

Re: [GTW] Multitasking Conversation loop bug (Freezes game, causes lag)

Hero

Is this new with the patch or happening before ? Sounds like a bug that was present in Sims 3 too.

Is just one Sim trying to interact with the Sim or all of them ?

Did you try renaming user folder an start a new game for testing purposes to see if it still occurs ?

Just thinking because someone pointed me to a Mac-specific time lag issue (http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/818181/sims-4-on-mac-lagging-shutting-down-and-soooo-slow... - Is anyone reporting this on a PC?

Sul sul from Luth!
No, I don't work for EA. Just here as a volunteer for non-DM support.
Have you backed up your Saves? Checked for broken and updated mods and CC?

I've never had this bug until the recent patch, but it's a bit different than the one in TS3 was though, that caused lag and some freezes but in TS3 when it froze... Everything else froze as well, in TS4 time keeps going, only the sims themselves are frozen, the game also seems to slow if it's left for long enough.

Just one sim to one other.

I'm currently testing that, it's quite a rare (but devastating) bug so it may take a while.

Oh, I'm on PC.

EDIT - I can now confirm, that even with a complete reinstall and rename of the EA folder as well as a totally new and different family, the bug does still occur, I have noticed that it can also be solved by pausing the game so it seems to be a processing problem, The 'frozen' sims in conversation show the Chat action, as well as another player direction action (can be anything multi-taskable) and they also show a second chat action in the queued actions tab.

It's almost like the game slowly builds up unresolved chat decisions (chat action type, seating place, ETC) which eventually cause lag and then freeze the game.

PS - I've also noticed that you can tell if the bug is starting or not by the control lag it causes, it sometimes means that when an object is moused over or clicked it can take several seconds for something to appear, this delay increases as the bug builds up.

Re: [GTW] Multitasking Conversation loop bug (Freezes game, causes lag)

[ Edited ]

Hmm, it sounds like my bug is similar to these:

http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/BUG-Time-freezing/td-p/3806607/page/8

http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/Sims-don-t-move-anymore/td-p/3460483/page/2

The bug always seems to appear when a sim is near another sim (probably trying to start a conversation and creating a loop).

Hero

A certain post in the time freezing bug thread or the whole thing ? Cause the whole thing sounds different to me.

The other does sound similar. Since you started a new game, evicting did not solve the issue though.

A certain post in the time freezing bug thread or the whole thing ? Cause the whole thing sounds different to me.

The other does sound similar. Since you started a new game, evicting did not solve the issue though.

Well, basically that's how the freezing works, the Sims are stuck in place, one is always stuck either in a conversation or attempting one, the music still plays and they still move their heads, arms, ETC but no progress bars will fill, they appear to be glue to wherever they are... If it's left long enough it increases processor usage until the game itself can no longer function at all IE frozen/crashed.

The errors described in the pages I linked sound like they're caused by something very similar if not identical, perhaps the next time it happens, one or more of them could check to see if any of their sims are attempting conversation?

As whenever this happens at least one sim is in/attempting a conversation and the lagging occurs when sims enter a conversation, I have to assume there's some kind of loop in the AI with the conversation system.
