[ARCHIVED] CAS Randomiser: Colour genetics skewed

[ Edited ]

Just searched through the posted bugs and couldn't find this so forgive if this has been posted please.

I figured this was just a problem with townie generation until I was in CAS the other day and now I think it might be a problem with the randomise button.

I noticed that of the 100 or so townies that my game had generated, all of them have either black or brown hair and brown eyes, (bar 2 - one was blond and one a red head). When I deleted all these townies and installed the reduce townie mod, the townies generated still all have black/brown hair and brown eyes, again bar one who is blond.

So when I was in CAS generating some townies to seed the hood with blond and red hair, blue, green and grey eyed sims, I tried the randomiser but same problem. Today I went thought 100 randomises in both CAS and the demo and got the following stats:

Demo: 61 Black hair, 26 Brown, 7 Blond and 6 Red - 89 Brown eyes, 4 Blue, 4 Green and 3 Grey

Of these most of the blue, green and grey eyes came with the blond and red heads though there was one blond brown eyed sim, one brunette blue eyed sim, and 2 red heads with brown eyes.

Full game CAS: 58 Black Hair, 30 Brown, 8 Blond, 4 Red - 87 Brown eyes, 4 Blue, 4 Green and 5 Grey.

Of the greens above, one of those was the grey that's in with the green colours.

Again most of the blue, green and grey eyes came with the blond and red hair colours except for one black haired green eyed sim (this was the weirdly placed grey colour), one blond brown eyed sim and one brunette green eyed sim.

Anyway, the skew towards the browns and blacks just had me wondering if the randomiser isn't being as random as its name implies. I don't have a problem with the randomiser/townie creator favouring more dominant hair and eye colours but it would be nice to at least have a chance of meeting a blond or red head or a sim with blue or grey eyes - yes, I am that oddity that doesn't mind game generated townies, I like the challenge of their trait mixes :D

@ThinkforSky Going to archive this thread since this thread didn't see any action since 2016 and you already made your own thread.

orld occurs in my game also though  i haven't run any statistics on it.   I would assume this probably represents actual wrorld population.  I love having an ethnically diverse population.  Only problem I have is that  you can't ask them where their ancestors are from which is something I like to know about friends I make in the real world.

I don't have a problem with the eye and hair colors but with the skin colors.  on the skin color selection bar there is one whole row of light skins, only 3 medium skins and 3 dark.  Plus blue and green which I have never seen on a living person.  Anyway, the preponderance of light skins skews genetics.  This is not a bug I don't suppose but how it is coded.  Although the algorithm that selects the skin color for a baby could be skewed toward the darker parent to balance it.

@sparklesim Since they made some changes to the genetics with the Feb patch, is this still an issue for you ?

No, still appears to be an issue - at least in CAS. Didn't do a full count but just clicked random about 30-40 times and only 4 red heads with grey eyes popped up. The rest were all black hair and brown eyes with a few brunettes.

I haven't noticed an upsurge in townies with blond or red hair either... just checked the random townie pool and there are a few more blonds in there but difficult to tell as most of the sims are elders so no idea what their hair colour is.

Sorry to bump this thread but I'm having more or less the same issue, especially when the parents have dramatically different skin tones.

For example, I had a light skin toned lady marry a black skin toned man, and they had two children. One game out the same skin tone as the mother, and the other came out with the same as the father. I have first hand experience that is not how it works in real life lol

I don't use any crazy, game altering mods. Was there ever a fix for this?

Re: CAS Randomiser: Colour genetics skewed

EA Sims Team

Hello.

- Regarding the CAS Randomizer and hair/eye colors, I've been told that by design it's not completely random.  It skews toward hair/eye colors that are more common in real life.  The majority of the world's population have black or brown hair, and brown eyes, and thus the tuning was set to have those colors appear more often when randomizing.

- Regarding the townies looking too similar, we are aware of this issue and will be looking into it further.

- Regarding how color carries over from parents to children, we will investigate.

Hi,

some years gone by since that thread started, but I also have the problem with the brown eyes. And I don't have it since the beginning, I have it since, I guess, some weeks.

Maybe it started when I installed Cottage living, that parents small addon (don't know the english name) and that toddler pack, or it started earlier and I just didn't recognize it till yet.

But I play Sims4 since maybe 2-3 years now, so I can say for sure, it is not from the beginning.

Also if there are much more people with dark eyes, but this is really TO much, almost all my Townies and unplayed Sims look like that and when I roll the dice in CAS there's also so much brown and black. Often more than 10 -15 times brown/black before there is one time coming another colour. That's not variety in my eyes.

Removing all Mods and Downloads and deleting cache files and repairing the game didn't bring any changes.

I'm really not happy with this.
