why is the pc version of bejeweled blitz not connecting to facebook?

When i click on the "connect with facebook" button in the main menu I get a rotating circle around a blue gem followed by a red X and the game will not connect to my facebook account if I click the X. If i don't click the X and leave it rotating some more I get an error saying "Unable to login to Facebook, the network is unavailable". However, network is certainly not the issue here as I have loaded this support page without any issues.

Is there a way to resolve this issue?
