Is there a trick to getting NEW emoji's?

In the last 6 months, I've gotten only 2 new emoji's. The rest have all been duplicates. I still can't find the clock or watch emoji (which seems to be the answer for the question of the day CONSTANTLY) and I'm getting frustrated with opening the box and seeing the same emojis over and over! What's the secret?
