Battlefield 3, funny, funny, funny game

Battlefield Hardline. Modern-era setup and hit registration in that game is flawless. I love it.

I transitioned from Modern Warfare 2 to Bad Company 2 back in 2009 and what really got me into battlefield was the explosions, the vehicles and the sniping. BF3 and BF4 became my favorite Battlefield titles. I was playing more Competitively on BF3 as a tank gunner for the old RFH Clan and support player for infantry. The clan disbanded sometime after BF4's release but I still keep in touch with a few of them. To this day, these two games begin to feel much better to play over time than the later games like BF1 and BF5. There is no better FPS formula than the old BF3 and BF4 titles. I still play them, no longer in a clan, just an official retired veteran with plenty of C4 and Tank kills under my belt. I do miss my old buddies, but I share my love with the blueberries and new faces that roam in the old servers.

BF4 by a mile. It had the best maps, both original release maps and xpac maps were mostly all on point. It had amazing customization and progression with metals/unlocks to keep you playing, it had secrets and special items/weapons to unlock, It had one of the best varieties of weapons, gadgets and vehicles of almost any game out there, The weapon and vehicle balance was pretty good especially compared to other bf titles. And even to this day the game has never gotten stale & always have fun on it. I really wish they would give it an enhanced upgrade or at least add it to portal. After switching to series x the visual quality took a nose dive.

That's my views of each game during its respective heyday. I think Bf1 was fun if it was those tight infantry focused maps (Urban environments, heavy foliage, etc). But in the big maps with tanks, aircraft, etc...the game kind of feel flat to me. Snipers and tanks felt way too strong (and still do to this day). Part of it is because of design around historical accuracy, I understand that. But to this day, it feels like 75% of all my deaths in that game on those maps was due to snipers or tanks. I went back and played it again recently and even though each game ended up with one side getting spawn camped, it felt like there was a good 50% of each team that were playing snipers. The other issue I had was all the indirect fire. Things like mortars and arty guns on some of the maps. Those were just not fun. Again, this was way more noticeable on those big maps. It was a stark difference from 2042 (snipers get hit with the nerf stick hard)
To me, the true test of a good battlefield is on the maps where every role is involved. Aircraft, armor, infantry. All together. If the experience doesn't feel fun, the game has design issues in my eyes. And to me, BF1 was the worse offender of this bad experience. Its interesting to me because 2042 kind of went the other dial. Sniper and tanking got hit hard with indirect nerfs because of the specialist design. Along with increased scope glint, laser tracers, etc. And with tanks with all the mobility+c5 and lis rockets. If 2042 can figure out specialist balance better and each role balance (each class for infantry, tanks, and aircraft); it would probably be a great and maybe even an amazing tier. Probably amazing because it lacks some QoL features (better squad management) and a commander system.
I think Bf2 and 1942 are some of the best because they had the best balance between each role to make you feel impactful and important, no matter the playstyle. Commander in Bf2 was also something I really liked. Not just playing it, but the whole concept of protecting or destroying commander assets. When Bf2 was in its heyday, it had a really good spread of different roles/playstyles. Jets were overtuned, I agree. But wasn't so bad it ruined the experience in my opinion.

And that's a fact! Sooo much fun in a game that was like nothing we had seen before. Innovative and a bit of a miracle for its time I think. Literally, a game changer and I was hoping BF2042 would take that leap as well.
All time fav is BF2 though..... mostly for the squad play and clans. If you were part of a clan and had TeamSpeak/Ventrilo going you spent the game screaming or laughing your head off Talking to your team to know when to switch classes was essential and a sadly missed component of current game play. Commander/commander assets - really don't know why Dice dropped that thread. BF2 was where "Only in Battlefield" was born
Worst games for me.... BF1 as beautiful and immersive as it was I do enjoy a modern gadgets, sights, vehicles etc. Didn't stop me spending 100 of hours playing it though, but jumping into a BF1 Tank or Plane was not the same thing, and I did miss the chance to fly a chopper now and then. I did get bored with it - first time for a Battlefield game
BC2.... never got it. Enjoyed the gameplay and the destruction but lacked depth I thought. Most memories are of scrabbling around Isla Inocentes after it had been raised to the ground in TDM. Considered it a Battlefield spin-of like Hard Line - something to play while you wait for the new version of the real game.
BFV - played it a lot, but never really registered with me as a Battlefield Game. A lot of innovation that sadly never made the cut in BF2042. I was missing the modern/near future setting by this time.

BF1 for atmosphere, BF3 for gameplay. Although i must admit Hardline was tight as hell.
