Battlefield bad company 2 connection error

"Battlefield bad company 2 connection error occured, if the happend durring account creation press cancel and then log in with your new account."

this happens when I try to log in, im not using a new account, I just got this on steam, start the game, go to log in, log in with ea user name and password and entered the key that steam provided, wait 5 seconds and this error message pops up.

Are you able to redeem the same code onto an Origin account and connect to the servers if you launch the digitally downloaded game from Origin?
