Zorlacc is telling you the real facts. I think that I will expand on that to some extent. These days, the primary failure is graphics. The average PC on the retail shelves cannot play the better games the way they are delivered to the stores. Since the average machine sold is a laptop, those are primarily a dead end. The graphics in those is normally inadequate, and cannot be upgraded.
Desktop machines in standard format enclosures can be upgraded from mere 'net surfing boxes to game machines with only two new pieces. One is a gaming quality video graphics add-on card. The other is a higher capacity power supply to support the new graphics card.

All-in-one machines share with laptops the problem with graphics upgrades, typically. "Slim" enclosure desktop machines require special low-rise add-on cards that are only offered at comparatively low-end performance levels, and often require special sizes and brands of power supplies that are not always good quality (the aftermarket has suffered from a glut of poor quality power supplies for many years, & care in choosing one is important).
