EA Access preventing BF4 from working

★★ Novice

I've owned BF4 since I had a 360, been playing it for years.  Transferred up to an X-Box One (and my soldier, of course) so naturally that meant that I had to purchase an XB1 version of the game.  I chose digital, since I play so much and have grown tired of replacing discs.

Enjoyed playing the game for many years.

So I purchased the EA Access thing, some time ago, but after several months I found I wasn't getting much out of it, so I cancelled the subscription.

I played BF4 long BEFORE having EA Access, played BF4 while I had EA Access, and even played BF4 recently, but AFTER cancelling EA Access.

But now today, when I go to launch BF4, the following message comes up:

""Looks like you need to renew EA Access

If your subscription is current, try quitting and re-launching the game. (0x803f800d)"

Totally makes no sense, of course.  And why now, after playing it fine after cancelling the subscription?  I played BF4 before, during, and after having EA Access, and in any case, I OWN THE GAME.  Altogether there's 70-80 GB of BF4 on my console.  EA Access is definitely NOT required in my case.

No offense, but this is total Bull.  I'm not too impressed with EA right now...

I spent over 2 hours with X-Box Support already, deleting and adding back profiles / accounts, resetting the console, etc. It was determined that the problem lies with EA Access and the game, so that's why I am here now, looking for help.

EA Access should not be interfering with this game, and I need some solutions.

I also own BF1, which seems to be working fine.

Thanks for any help.

You will need to contact EA Support and follow this steps here: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/contact-ea-help . Depending on the outcome with your conversation with the support agent, you may need to contact Xbox support again but the agent will inform you on further details etc.

We cant help you here on the forums sadly since this are public forums and account stuff is handled in private chats etc.

Okay, well that didn't work. This just goes round in a circle where I've been before. I emailed them a 'report a bug' email, to which they responded with 'thanks for the info, we'll pass it along', matter closed, if you need help to continue playing, click -here- and go back to EA help and select another topic. But I never get to the part where I can ask EA to call me back immediately. Or to call them. Which selection should I use other than 'report a bug' ?

Try to do a live chat session instead of email. You dont have to be exact when filling the forum for contact options, just choose the closest that you can that would give you a live chat option. Once you get it, wait till the agent connects to you and take it from there etc.

Nope.  Not at all.  After over a week of mucking about with absolutely NO results, including a 'we're working on it' sort of 'cheque-is-in-the-mail' kind of false promise to which they also told me not to inquire further, as that would 'downgrade' the priority of my case, as it had gone to some 'specialists' to look into.  So great, I'm just supposed to hang out, with my thumb up my... , and I can't even bug them about it or inquire about the progress, as that will downgrade it to a lower level of priority?  Yeah right...

Couldn't wait that friggin' long.  So I caved, and purchased the game again.  Great going, DICE / EA, you managed to make me pay for the game, AGAIN. Uber lame.

As a result of this and other issues with terrible service from EA, fixing issues, handling customer problems (or lack thereof), I avoid buying EA products like the plague, and have nothing good to say about them on the service side of things. Unfortunately, there's always just that 1 or 2 titles that you just can't do without, so I'll probably still purchase from them in the future though.

But I avoid it if at all possible.  Thank God I don't like sports games.

I mean, here's just a quick idea of the run around I had (before caving and re-buying).  All of this is on-the-phone support.

First, I try Microsoft / X-Box support.  After 2-3 hours of checking this, doing that, wiping and re-installing accounts, etc - no joy.  They finally say that since it seems to be an EA Access problem, you need to deal with them.

So, I get on with EA, and then spend another 2-3 hours mucking about doing many of the same things I did with MS / XBL Support, and finally, although I'm on with EA people, and I've explained to them that MS / XBL Support say the problem is with them, or rather, the EA Access thingy (to which the EA guy agrees), I'm told that the whole permissions thingy and purchasing of things like memberships to EA Access and whatnot are all handled by the Microsoft / X-Box Store, so I have to GO BACK TO THEM.

Ugh.

Sooo..... I get back on the phone with XBL Support AGAIN...

(These are all 2-3 hour phone calls, each on their own day, 'cause like, I've got other things to do besides be on the phone ALL DAY...  so yeah, instead I get to be on the phone for 3-4 days...)

Yada yada yeda.

As you can surely guess, after more wasted time with MS / XBL Support (who agree that they handle / toggle the purchases and permissions of things, but the thing that actually has to be toggled to fix the problem is on a 3rd party server, that is, an EA server...), so... you guessed it - they turn me back around and point me at EA once again.

{sigh}

So I go back to EA, and basically say that the buck stops here, I'm not ping-ponging back and forth anymore... they agree... kick my case up to specialist priority, tell me it might take a day, 3 days, a week, blah blah blah, and don't ask after the case anymore, or else it will drop back down into the 'regular priority queue'...

Uh yeah...  service is ril gud.
