Battlefield 4 failed to start

★★★★★ Novice

When i try to launch the game it gives me a prompt that says "Battlefield 4 failed to start" and "Please repair your game installation and try again". I tried to repair it but it did nothing. I then looked at several threads about battlefield 4 cant launch but only found this one: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Battlefield-4/ERROR-Could-not-launch-game-Please-make-sure-it-s-installed/.... A supposed fix was given by user Solitary Eclectic at the #6 comment which said to do this;

Run Origin as Administrator:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin and right click on Origin.exe and go to properties. Then go to compatibility tab and check the box next to RUN AS ADMIN.

Disable Origin in game:
In Origin - Application settings - Origin in Game - disable Origin in game

Origin Cloud Storage turn it off
Origin, settings, General

Reboot PC then try again

If this fails to fix it then try this....

Please update your Origin client to the latest Beta version (top left Origin menu, Application Settings - General) Then reboot PC and try again.

OR

Re- install origin only not your game just origin.

1. Uninstall Origin completely from Windows Control Panel.
2. Reboot your PC. This is important to clear out any lingering registry files or directories.
3. Download the latest Origin here: http://origin.com/download

4. Install Origin and see if you can install your game.

I tried doing all of this and it didnt work either. I am pretty sure i followed the instructions aswell so im honestly at loss of what to do. So now i hope someone might have another fix for this, Thanks in advance!

Type environment variables in the start menu, open the first thing, click on environment variables in the bottom and send a screenshot

Should look like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/330822327258578945/825855476096958524/unknown-1.png
Click on GAME_DATA_DIR, click on the top delete button then OK. After that, restart your PC.

Hey @ImPrettyTrash,

Another step to try would be clearing the cache on Origin itself before repairing the game installation one more time.

https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

After that if you're still seeing the same error, going through a clean boot for your PC may be the best bet.

@EA_Mako There is one small problem i have with deleting the cache. The folder named DownloadChache cant be deleted even though there is nothing inside it. Is it ok to leave it there?

Hey @ImPrettyTrash, going through the clean boot will be the best way to tell if some other program may be conflicting here or otherwise preventing that from launching properly.

It may also help to check the following settings, particularly in antivirus and security programs.

@ImPrettyTrash

If you can attach your DxDiag instead actually, we can see if there's anything else going on that may be causing this to happen.
