Re: Battlefield 4 [PC] won't launch

★★ Novice

Tried all of the above suggestions and I am just getting the "Were Sorry, it looks like your game didnt start properly" warning. LIttle frustrating considering the amount paid for the game and premium.

I am running windows 8.1, I have clean uninstalled and reinstalled BF4 (and all DLC)

clean uninstalled and reinstalled Origin,

Reinstalled punkbuster

Reset my browser (and tried a second and third browser)

Ran as Admin

Disabled origin in game

Reset the cloud data

Updated my graphics drivers and BIOS

Uninstalled my antivirus.

I am a little disapointed considering the effort that I put into the game and I cant use it when I want.

FIX THIS!

Ok I have a few ideas for you guys to try .....

1- Go to my documents and move the BF4 folder to desktop or trash then repair game. you will have to redo all in game settings but this has worked for others.

2- If the above failed then check your windows for errors steps below. I had issues in BF4 so bad but my windows seemed stable until I went to BF4 so this is fully worth a try as it cant hurt. But do all steps fully as I posted them.

This next part works in all windows O/S vista win 7,8 and 8.1 windows system file checker  :]

...... sfc /scannow ..... ever hear of it  if not your going to love this .... it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them. This little tool as well as the event viewer saved me  and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved my .... many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :]

1 - Open administrator command prompt  and close web pages and programs like origin

2 - Type or copy and paste in   sfc /scannow   and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min  SSD vs HD

3 - This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors  ... it fixed some  errors  ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4 -After its done reboot and do it again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix ...  run sfc /scannow  again and when its done a second time  reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5- So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop now for now  lol, If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow  again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6 - If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow  2X in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format :/ But after format and all updates are done run  sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between, then If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 then you can run this next command / line in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/  It will restore the health of your PC and you dont lose anything

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth   <------- ONLY works for windows 8 and 8.1

7 - When its done reboot

Have you ever tried this....

BF4 folder in my documents holds game configs and screen shots even if BF4 is installed on different drive. When you uninstall BF4 it does NOT remove this folder. So when you install the game again you can still have the same issues.

1- Go to my Documents and remove BF4 folder place it on your Desktop or trash.
2- Be warned you do have to set up your in game settings again.
3-Repair BF4
4- When done go test your game.

I had the same. Nothing happened when I tried to launch the game. I've tried everything I was able to find on the internet with no result. Then I decided to install BF3 and I found the solution. BF3 was not starting too but gave an error message that the game can't connect to Battlelog because of missing application (I had the same already with MOHW) so I've check forums for a solution to that problem and it was very simple: setting Chrome as default internet browser!!! Believe me or not but BF3 launched! Now I've installed BF4 and it works too!!!

Hope that helps for you as well. Good luck!

I have to modify a bit what I wrote last time. It's not setting Chrome as a default browser that fixed the issue in my case, it was installing BF3!. I've removed it after running successfully BF4 for the first time and after that I couldn't launch the game (BF4) like before although it was connecting to Battlelog correctly.

What I've noticed is it's not only installing BF3 but also running the game until it autosaves for the first time. After that I could again launch BF4!

Maybe it has something to do with the 4 files in this directory C:\Users\XXX\Documents\Battlefield 3\settings:

meta

PROF_SAVE_body

PROF_SAVE_header

PROF_SAVE_profile

I don't know, but maybe it will give someone a hint what is actually the real problem.
