Do I need to have origen to play battlefield 3?

So I recently bought battlefield 3 from steam but the game won't open so do I need origen to play or can I play from steam?

@8v0lnxg1bd18 i'll say yes, because you need to open and sign in to battlelog to open the game.
Once you have installed it should all be fine. Make sure to link your Steam account to your EA account!
