Can't Buy SimPoints on Store.TheSims3.com?

Hey all,

At the moment the "Buy SimPoints" link on TheSims3.com is redirecting to the new EA app instead of the correct store page.

However, players can still purchase SimPoints on the EA app for PC (and Origin on Mac) to redeem on TheSims3.com and in-game stores while this issue is corrected.

So after the changes(which i HATE btw) now i cant purchase simpoints??? what do i do with the 30$ worth of EA cash ive bought?! i play no other EA games, only sims 3 and now no origin, so i cant purchase simpoints now??

@QuinKildare I am still able to see SimPoints in EA App, under "The Sims 3 Currency". Although I haven't actually tried to go through with the purchase, I assume it should work.

for some reason i cannot download the app. so i have to have the app to buy sim points??

@QuinKildare If you still have Origin on your computer, you should be able to buy SimPoints there. If you've uninstalled it, you can download it again here:

You don't need to uninstall the EA App first; just don't try to open both apps at the same time. Search Origin for "SimPoints" and the option should show up.

@on9sinsin I've merged your post with another thread about the same issue. Try going through Origin instead of the EA App.

So I just tried that, it wouldn't let me make a purchase till I bought the base game, tried copying my codes over from steam to register them and it tells me they've already been registered. I'm assuming because I registered them into The Sims 3 Community. I own all the expansions and it wouldn't let me register any of them at all. I'm fuming.

@3MummaBee Sign into Origin or the EA App with the same email address and password you used on the old Sims 3 site (the community site you referenced), and Sims 3 should already be present in your game library. Origin is probably the better bet than the EA App, at least for now. You can download it from here:

They have closed the Origin store. It is no longer possible to buy Simspoints through Origin.

@NatalieQuay EA has taken origin.com offline, but the Origin app still works and still sells points. I'm looking at the store page right now, which I found by searching for "simpoints" in Origin, and I can get far enough for Origin to ask me for my credit card info.

Me to. I hate the new website. I have had this game for 3 years. It is the only game i have on here. Everything else i use steam for.

@KerriBomb You can buy SimPoints now, without waiting for a fix. In the EA App, open your game library, click on the Sims 3 icon, then click the DLC button, and you should see an entry for Currency at the top of the list. Click that, and you'll be on the SimPoints product page. In Origin, just search the store for "simpoints" without quotes.

@NatalieQuay Origin software is still installed for Steam players (TS4/Mass Effect LE), you can get Simpoints from it.

well that sucks, I was saving until my birthday to buy some of the last sets I hadn't gotten yet and then when I went to get SimPoints it just re-directed me to the EA page for buying games, but I will try going through the Origin app on my desktop to buy some SimPoints and if that doesn't work I will try the EA app.

Well I just tried to open the Origin app that came with my sims 3 games and I logged in and it kept telling I had to be online to log in-which I was, but it wouldn't let me log in, so I'm trying the latest version to see if that will work

**Just another update, in order to get SimPoints I had to download the new EA App and when you run it and click installed games-The sims 3 and scroll down, there is an option to purchase the Sims 3 currency, which will allow you to buy SimPoints, and I was able to get them that way.
