Cross play with titles like BF 2 “can” physically be done; it just can’t be done well on titles such as this.
You need games with simpler mechanics and less intricate development than BF 2 in order to maintain good gameplay value.
Server demands and netcode resolution on BF 2 would be garbo to the utmost extent making this cross play; and that’s before even talking about modding or cheating.
We see titles like Warzone that have so many anomalies in gameplay due to the games inability to properly resolve and while Warzone is a larger game, size wise, there’s less interactive mechanical code in that game; the burden comes from the volume of synchronization not the complexity.
Making BF 2 would only yield everyone quicker matches as you’d have a larger player pool to match, however, this would be likely short lived because BF 2 is already compiled poorly and with cross play adding to it people would leave the game due to the even lower gameplay value leaving you with a net negative.
