I am a bit surprised no one has responded to your thread. Very good description of the problem.

I am a casual player who plays a strong  possession based game with a very high line. I think football is one of the most complex games in the world, if not the most complex. Defence is a big part of it. EA has done a good job over the years integrating AI as an assistant. But the defence in this game is, well, not football anymore. I can understand if AI presses an opponent or covers some angles in defence. That is fair. But allowing AI to actually defend and just press, press, recover and press again without affecting the shape of the pressing team in anyway is not normal. That is not reflective of football.

In FUT higher divisions, it is worse. You find players with high OVR players packing the bus in defence and constantly pressing with AI from every angle. 

These are my questions to those who decided to let AI actually defend and get in the way of players:

1. Why didn’t the game makers simply leave attacking to AI just as it has done with defence? Is defence less or more important?

2. If strong attacking patterns and a high line are likely to draw my players out of position, why the imbalance with constant pressing in defence? 
3. Why don’t players tire out with such constant pressing?

4. With AI defending being so good and super rapid, why is the passing so slow in this game? I am not suggesting the passing be made faster as a workaround. It would only make things worse.

5. Are you aware the AI is making awkwardly rapid recoveries from impossible angles and distances to intercept plays? 
6. Did the game makers actually test how the AI pressing works in multiplayer modes? Are they aware that it is impossible to play your way through this constant AI pressing when both players are triggering AI to defend?

Great post! Agree with 99%. Also been around since International superstar soccer (deluxe) on SNES. 

U R right about that this is what the ADULT community wants (most people here), but ur missing one thing. What we want is not the same as what spending UT players want (mostly 9 year olds). They don’t want a football sim. They want a high RNG game with small skill gap that feeds their gambling addiction. (Even though they r not aware of it themselves, the algorithm sure knows it). Since this is where the money is at, EA is gonna accommodate them. 

I loved this post. As someone who has played every fifa since forever, loves the game, watches, reads, obsesses, this Fifa is killing my appetite for gaming. 

What you said about the static AI on attack is so true. I've got 3 creative CAMs on my team and a DLP behind them with license to roam. If one passes to the other, they then just stand there. If I give an L1 pass, they start running towards goal at the speed of light and don't stop till they're in the stands. If I ask a third man to run, they will do the same. And unless I pass to the runner, I'm tucked because then I'm a man short. Anyone who wants to play the passing game and work their way through the opponent with combinations can forget about it. There are no combinations anymore to work your way up. Just direct balls to forwards and then a run and a through ball. That's the sum total of your attack. 

Or you could do what everyone else does, which is pick a Vinicius or Mbappe or cheap man's meta equivalent, use a few skills to "speed boost" (super realistic EA), do some more skills to make defenders head to the corner flag even when you don't instruct them to and then score that finesse shot with the guys who've got 99 curve. Oh, and every so often, slow down father time and get that shot from distance to go in with the dribble and L1R1 tap. (Super realistic again EA.)

I get it. It's a game. And it's mainly for kids. So I get that they want to basically get the ball to the highest rated trickster as soon as possible and then spam buttons they've memorised to fire it in. 

But did you have to nerf it for the rest of us who want to play a realistic game? With normal scores and the requirement of a little bit of thinking and tactics?

Also, maybe I'm just missing something but why can't I pick my own secondary in game tactics and refine them? If I edit the set ones, they become my main tactics. And in game, in 30 seconds, there's only so much you can do. Not that trying to adjust to an opponent yields much when they can score literally if they spam a few skills and the player becomes super human and the ball finds them whether you win it or not. 

I think this one is for sure my last Fifa. I'm done. 

Im glad everyone else is having the same problems with this game.

The worst is when they slow

your players down so you automatically have a 50/50.

The next is that i can read two or three plays before the opposition will score. The algorithms are awefull.

sorry but this is my last ever purchase, tough as ive been footy gaming since sensible soccer.

Fc 25, the gameplay is bad. It has been made worse and worse by the devs. This isn’t just isolated, the series has been going downhill for the last ten years. 

Recently tried FIFA 15 again, its better then the garbage they have made since. EA has shifted their focus solely to monetisation, because a few whales spend tons of cash on coins. EA’s CEO is not just greedy, but also completely clueless, if you don’t know him I suggest you read some of his quotes. After laughing hysterically at the stupidity of the things he says you will understand why all the talented people have left EA. Have been trying to wake the devs up, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen.

I never thought I’d come online and complain about a game, but here I am. This game is awful. Will not be purchasing another FC again. Very lazy and unrealistic game mechanics. Inconsistent game speed. Especially when playing online. My players move slow while it seems like my opponents players are moving double speed. Like unrealisticly fast. Its like they all of a sudden glitch straight to me. They are able to tackle me at will from behind with no foul call. Even when I shield the ball. That is crazy, tackling from behind should be removed in general unless its a well timed slide tackle.
They spam skill moves which traps my defender in an animation, but because they are moving at a pace faster than mine when i try the same they win the ball back with ease. I can be outside the box dribbling with Mbappe with only the goalkeeper to beat and the keeper will rush out and get to the ball before I have a chance to kick it. How?? Are they superman? It is physically impossible for a person to cross the box and get to the ball at my feet before i have a chance to kick. All players should move at the same speed relative to their pace. AI should not be able to move faster than me.  Also my defenders will deliberately break the line and run back preventing an offside trap and allowing for an easy one on one with the keeper and when I try to rush my keeper out there is always a delay before he starts moving.
When I win the ball back from opponents they are able to recover and win it back  before I can even fully control the ball. Again physically impossible. Meanwhile when they win the ball from me my player freezes or stumbles, thus allowing them to get going and forcing me to scramble to recover. Finally, the input delay is so infuriating. By them time my player responds to my input the situation no longer calls for it and my opponent wins the ball back. 
Is this a server issue or what? Because in the lower divisions its not as much of a problem but once i’m in division 1 its like playing a different game, I'm no longer in control of my players.  You should know the game is broken when folks are going 400-0-15. Those guys should be in a division of their own so that the rest of us who want to play a fair, fun and consistent game can enjoy it in peace. I dont mind losing, its part of the game but I hate being cheated out of an experience I paid for. Simplify the game again. Take out all the automatic automation and over powered AI and let folks battle it out based off of skill and not spamming loopholes. You beat my with a skill move, fine but don't predestine me to be beat because Im stuck in an animation. 

It’s April in this game is still terrible. Nothing about this game works properly..  simple passes can’t be made to the intended receiver time and time again we see how God awful the AI is in this game and it only just screws you over purposely every freaking time. Defending is terrible majority of the time when you defend it it should be an outright win when you tackle it goes straight back to the attacking player perfectly for them to get a goal. I get this situation sometimes, but the frequency in which it happens, shouldn’t be in FIFA we’re not talking the majority of the game where tackle happens and it goes straight back to the attacking player perfectly for them to score. This game is a failure on every single level, and if I was a developer or anyone associate with this game, I wish I would be fired to save the embarrassment. You deserve to be fired embarrassment of the game.

It’s April and this game still so beyond frustrating to play. Literally every shot against you goes in. All that left that are people who use a Kronus or blatantly hack. That’s how terrible this game is.

Great opening post. I’ve also been playing football games since the ZX Spectrum days. 

Here we are in 2025 and my hands get sore trying to wrestle my players to move in a largely offline mode like squad battles. 

The gameplay styles I can handle the choices they make from time to time but let me play the way my players that I’ve paid for and worked for can do.

My home set up is as good as it can be and they don’t seem to know why a percentage of their players can’t get the right experience.

In my industry you focus on the bottom 5% experiences and you figure out how you can make those better - that’s how you learn about your product and develop it. 

EA as a company have the worst customer service I’ve seen anywhere. I think genuinely they don’t know what is wrong most of the time and they approach it in the wrong way - assuming that the customer is wrong. 

I used to worry about getting better, watching videos, reading tips. I now realise it is completely about connection and gameplay.
