titanfall.exe has stopped working (WORKAROUND)

[ Edited ]

I had this crash occur to me every single time a game started to run then exit to desktop with the notification saying 'titanfall.exe has stopped working'
Finally fixed it by going into my bios and turning off Hyperthreading and multi core processing.

Developers, if you're reading this please fix this issue as it is a chore to reset my pc and adjust my bios setting everytime I want to play titanfall. Thank you. :robothappy:

My pc specs.

2x Intel Xeon E5-2660
Asus Z9PE-D8 WS
Geforce GTX 570 2560mb

Windows 7

My drivers and bios firmware are all latest available from vendors.

Thank you.

Yeah I had no crashes with Titanfall since launch and I had previously turned off HT aswell with my i7 930. So maybe people crash because of Hyperthreading. I have to say though this is a very good launch overall.

HAHAHAHAHA, yeah, right, I'm getting a lot of crashes mid-game too and so are other people, but there is no way I am screwing around with my BIOS and locking my i5 down to one core every time I want to play. Thanks for letting us know, solvalov, this is interesting info, but this is no kind of fix. If the developers made a game that can't run properly on multi-core processors in the year 2014, I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I'd like to have this issue fixed as much as you do. Which is why everyone who still has this problem should try this workaround and report back with the result.

I will try this after I try all the other proposed fixes (like driver cleaner and rollback) first and they don't work, if and only if. I appreciate you trying to make progress toward getting the problem solved but personally it only makes sense to start with the simplest solutions and work up to the hardest.

I'm having this problem, too.  Specifically, here are the crashes I'm seeing:

1.) If I run without "-novids" it crashes after the logos and before the  menu.

2.) If I run with novids, I can get to the menu, click on "Play."  I then see that it's trying to connect, and after 1-5 tries or so it switches to the "ship" loading screen.  After a second, I get a CTD with NO errors.  Sometimes Windows displays a "Titanfall.exe has stopped working" dialog, but most of the time it just crashes straight to desktop.

Here's what I've tried so far (NONE of this has worked):

1.) Repaired the install

2.) Set the shortcut to run with "-novids" and to disable the Origin overlay

3.) Set Titanfall and Origin to run as administrator

4.) Booted in safe mode, cleaned my driver, installed the 332 driver from January

5.) Set VSYNC to "adaptive" in the Nvidia control panel (after this I actually got past the "loading" screen but it crashed while trying to load into training).

6.) Setting all video and sound settings to the lowest settings.

7.) Using the GeForce Experience to run in "optimized" mode.

Nothing works.  The farthest I managed to get was the first screen after the loading screen, which tries to launch the training segment and that crashed on load.

Spent about 6+ hours trying to fix this issue and haven't made any progress.

Could maybe setting the games affinity be a better solution, as in this - http://www.gamespot.com/forums/pc-mac-discussion-1000004/permanent-core-affinity-setting-for-steam-g...

I too am crashing as soon as I get past the startup vids.  It seems like the game tries to change resolution and then I get the error.  It's odd because I didn't have a single issue during the beta, and the game worked for the first hour or 2 yesterday.  Now I'm crashing constantly.

Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5 3570k

Geforce GTX 670 FTW

12GB RAM

240GB SSD

For what it's worth, I had the same exact experience when I bought BF4.  The game worked the first play session, and then crashed anytime I tried to run in afterwords.

Yep, setting affinity worked for me.  I'm just using two threads and have a GTX680 4GB with everything maxed out and i'm finally playing! Give it a shot.

Okkay., These step by step workarounds... did work for me

FIXING TITANFALL LAUNCH CRASHING
______________________________________________________________
Step 1

Disable firewall and antivirus:

I would suggest that you try temporarily disabling
any firewalls you have running on your system: - •
Software firewalls can simply be turned off, usually
by right clicking on the icons
near your clock and selecting "Close" or "Exit". •
Hardware firewalls should be bypassed by going from
the computer directly to your modem, skipping any
router you may have.

Open Windows Firewall by clicking the Start button ,
clicking Control Panel, clicking Security, and then clicking
Windows Firewall.
Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off. If you are prompted
for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password
or provide confirmation.
Click Off (not recommended), and then click OK.

__________________________________________________________________

step 2

1. Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
and select task manager.
2. Click the "Processes" tab.
3. Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User
Name to sort by user name.
4. Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or
NETWORK SERVICE.
5. Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this
User Name or other user names.
6. Click on END PROCESS
7. Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe
are open for this user profile.

___________________________________________________________________

step 3

Delete Temporary Folder:

1. Double click on "My Computer"
2. Double click on the C: drive
3. Double click on the "Windows" folder.
4. Double click on the "Temp" folder.
5. Hold the "CTRL" key and tap the "A" key to select all.
6. Tap the "Delete" key on your keyboard and accept the
"Are you sure you want to delete these files" prompt.

Press the windows key+R and then type " %temp% ''
and then delete everything from there as well.

___________________________________________________________________

step 4

Disable the Origin In-Game Overlay

1 From the Origin menu, select Application Settings.
2 Select the In Game tab.
3 Uncheck Enable Origin In Game and click Done.

___________________________________________________________________

6 If you are prompted for an administrator password or
confirmation, type the password for confirmation.
If not, please skip to the next step.
7 In the left pane of the 'Windows Firewall with Advanced
Security' dialog box click 'Inbound Rules'
8 In the right pane, click 'New Rule'
9 This will cause a New Inbound Rule Wizard to run where
you will be able to enter the relevant port number and to
select either 'TCP' or 'UDP'
Add as a port

Add following ports
