[OPEN] Put in inventory of un-owned items

Hi Simmers 
I want to know how it should work with items Sims made for Sims in another household.
F.e. my Simin wrote a "book of life" and want to give it to another family. Should this work?
When I lay the book on the ground on a public lot, I get the option with other Sims to put it in the inventory but nothing happens.
When I go with the writer to another family lot and lay the book down in their house, switch to that family, the only thing they can do is "put it away" and they put it into the bookshelf, mothing more.
The option to put it into the inventory is there too but doesn´t work.
If this shouldn´t work why is there the option for the inventory?

I don't think it should work as it doesn't belong to them but the put in inventory interactions seems off.
