Can't complete part of a Quest

Hello,

I have to complete a quest and part of that involves getting to know someone. However, I'm already friends with them so I can't 'Get to Know' them. I don't know what to do or how to remedy it. I've nearly completed the whole 'Build an Empire' main task and I don't want to have to redo the whole thing again.

Usually, there's an option on the chatweel that says "Get to Know."  If it's not there, then you'll have to click on the "Friendly..." option to reveal it.

There is usually an interaction, that is allowed for quests, that is not in a certain interaction box. It is usually in the outside, mostly to the left. Even if you are friends with that person, you can still get to know them (as long as you do not know all of their traits). Does your sim know all of their traits?
