Unable to re-install Sims3 on Mac

I haven't been able to re-install the sims3 on my mac since it hasn't been played for multiple years. Every time that i try to install it, it all works perfectly and then i click on the icon to open the game and it tells me i need to install it. Is my Mac or disc too old?
