Sims 3 starter pack installed, won't open

I downloaded Sims 3 starter pack via Origin then installed to my computer. The Sims 3 application is in my mac. I can either try to open it there or via Origin. If I try to open it via Origin I get a message that basically says ..."you've got something else downloading this can cause game play issues, do you with to continue?" when I click play i get an error that says "Unknown Error Have Occurred" there's no options except to close from there. I get this same "Unknown Error Has Occurred" when trying to open Sims 3 from my mac applications window. I just want to play Sims 3... can anyone help me?
