Service initialization failed for Origin/MAC

★★★ Newbie

I am trying to launch The Sims Medieval after downloading the game on my mac

and an error message is prompted- "Service initialization failed (0x0175dcbb)".

I have uninstalled and re-downloded the game multiple times off of Origin

and my mac and it still won't work.

Attached is a screen shot of the error message.

Has anyone encountered this problem and knows how to fix it?

I was having this exact same issue. Talked to EA Help and got it to work! Just follow these steps:

RESET ORIGIN ON MAC
https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/

DISABLE ORIGIN IN-GAME
https://help.ea.com/en-nz/help/origin/origin/how-to-use-origin-in-game/

DISABLE GATEKEEPER
https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT202491

CLEAR CACHE FOR ORIGIN

EA app Team

Hi @ampedupalex,

Welcome to Answers HQ!

I have moved your thread to The Sims Mac board, where it's more likely for other Mac users to see it. Maybe @fons_garmo or @Bluebellflora have seen this error before on Mac Standard smile

Is it the first time you install the game in your Mac? Could you give us more information about your system? Here is how to do that Wink

Thanks!

@leeserrae

I really hope you enabled Gatekeeper again and the EA helper warned you that you were disabling a security feature? Standard smile

There's no need to clear the cache if you've already used the reset tool, the reset tool clears the cache.

Re: Service initialization failed for Origin/MAC

I successfully did the first two steps, but when I got to the third, there seems to no longer be the option of allowing "applications downloaded from anywhere" on a Mac with Sierra. Or, at least, mine is not showing that option. And I am assuming that was what was meant by disabling gatekeeper..? To change it to "from anywhere?"

And then as Bluebellflora said, is it not necessary to do the last step if I already reset origin?

However, after doing the only two steps I can then (the first two), I am still getting that same "service initialization failed" message as posted in this thread. Any other advice or tips??

Thanks so much!!

@kate94E28

Apple took out the option to install software from any source in Sierra but if you go into System Preferences you should get the option to open it anyway. You can also enter a Terminal Command to allow unidentified apps - https://www.imore.com/how-open-apps-unidentified-developers-mac

What Mac do you have?

I have followed all of the steps as well and still can't get it to work either :'( I have not yet added the Pirates and noble DLC back either.  Dose EA have a fix for this?

I have a MacBook Pro running High Sierra v10.13.2

@inkwelliris , what version of the Mac OS are you currently running?

However, you should be able to go into System Preferences and add Origin/EA as a trusted site to download applications from. If you can download other games from Origin, then you should be able to download Sims Medieval as well.
