I regularly lose all of my saves and progress in both the Sims 4 and SimCity on my Mac. This seems to happen every time Origin updates. I am forced to start from the very beginning in both games each time. I have no explanation for this loss of data.

Do you have iCloud Drive enabled?

I have the same problem (SimCity) but am not running Sierra, I have El Capitan 10.11.6. I checked my iCloud drive and there is no option for documents and folders to be on the iCloud.

Is your iCloud Drive enabled or disabled in System Preferences? Can you please post a screenshot of your iCloud settings?

Thanks @Bluebellflora
It's enabled, but there is no option for documents and files to be uploaded.

Ah ok, I think it was introduced with Sierra. Did you purchase Simcity through Origin or the App Store? If you downloaded through Origin where did you install it to? If you're running any antivirus can you turn it off, load the game and save and see where it saves to? Have you also tried doing a search using Spotlight/Finder for a save file?

Would moving the SimCity Media folder/files be the cause? I just realised that I moved it recently, not knowing the game wouldn't find it, how embarrassing. I'll remember not to do that in future. I now have more than one SimCity Media folder, I don't suppose there's any way I can put the old games back in the most recent folder in Documents? No worries if not.
Thanks for your help.

Yep, moving the files will do it Put your original folder back, replacing the newly created one and you should be fine.
