My Sims 4 won't start

★★★ Newbie

I can't start my Sims 4 game for some reason. I keep clicking at both Sims 4 and Origin, but neither start. Yesterday I tried, and Orgin  started... but when I clicked on Sims 4 play was all gray. For some reason, I could open the demo but not the actual game! Sooooo annoying. I know Clean Boot is an option, but I can't do that for various reasons. I think I've spent 2 hours on it at least.

I have the same problem :/ after the recent update my game won't start. It'll crash right at the EA logo. I admit I enabled mods again after a long time. Right afer the update i started the game without any problems and enabled mods but only without scripts (if that makes any difference idk) closed the game and tried to restart it but it started crashing. I've deleted all my mods, nothing. Tried deleting cache (i don't know if corectly - do I have to delete EVERYTHING  except LocalContent or only cache files? ) still nothing.

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.
