[FIXED] Lost save games
It seems EA has identified the source of this and is working on a fix.
The issue lies with the auto-save so to prevent this from happening, try this:
- Don't load/save to that auto-save slot. After starting a new game, use save-as to make a new named slot. Then always save to that one.
- Don't use the PLAY button on the main menu but use the disc icon in the upper right corner to load the game. Never load the auto-save.
- Before you leave the game for good, use save as again and make sure you don't save to the auto-save slot but to a new one.
- Always make backups of the saves folder on a regular basis
UPDATE: This issue should be fixed in Patch 1.0.728.0. You might be able to recover the lost ones (if you didnt' delete them).

Never any mods, Never any CC, Windows 8, Origin Digital Deluxe Download
I saved my file manually last night after moving my sim from her old house to a new one. I wanted to create a boyfriend for her in CAS, so I saved manually, then went to Manage Worlds, I let the autosave also save first, made the guy, and when I went to place him, I noticed in the save file that she was back to being in her old house. I quit without saving, loaded the game back up, and although the timestamp of both saves was accurate, she was pretty much back at square one like when I had first created her.
I'm going to Save As for awhile now, I think. I don't know what happened, but I lost about 12 hours of progress (bear in mind, I had saved several times over the course of the 12 hours, had closed the game several times and loaded the save just fine). Fortunately, I haven't gotten too attached to my sims yet, but I had just finished her first aspiration and now she has to start all over again. *shrug* Just putting in my report. Trying to identify if it is an issue with read/write permissions of the files, but I'm not having much luck as I've not been able to reproduce this myself. Perhaps as a suggestion for those who repeatedly have this issue:
- Open Origin as administrator by right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator".
- Set TS4.exe to run as administrator in the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin" by right clicking > Properties > Compatibility tab > Privilege level > tick "Run this program as Administrator." (Don't do this to any of Origin's shortcuts/.exes as it can act a little bit weird, so stick to the method in the previous bulletpoint to open Origin Client)
- Restart Origin and play as normally.
This should ignore any read/write restrictions on the save files -if- this is the issue, again, I can't see any Read-only attributes applied to any of my save files so I am not 100% sure this is a viable solution, but it might be worth testing.
If you try this, please report back if this works or not. (Be sure to backup every so often regardless) 
(I will however be able to test if this affects the persistence of some of the options in the settings menus.)

I tried this exactly how you instructed (about running as admin) and still run into the same crash issue when attempting to resume play on an auto-save.
- How many files do you have in the folder docuements\electronicarts\thesims4\saves ? 18
- Are all the save games faulty ? No
- Are you using save/save as or mostly autosave ? Save and Autosave - now as I "fix" my save issue by evicting my sim and moving to another house, I have been using "save as"
- Anything else you want to share This bites!

Also, just realized that my "fix" so I don't lose my sims progress to evict/move them into another house does work for my sims/progress, but I am no longer able to go into the original lot without the game crashing. Seems the auto-save issue sticks with the lot itself and not necessarily the Sim family. I've tried to move another Sim family in, bulldoze the lot, and just go into build/edit mode, but it constantly crashes each time. Now these lots are just not usable. I can't do anything with them.
