Try disabling your firewall. Origin and EA are frequently mistaken by antivirus software as security risks. If it works after you disable your firewall, you must add origin.exe and Sims3Launcher.exe files to your firewall exceptions. Also you can go to your internet options, under the privacy tab, click on Sites. Type in each of these and then click Allow for each: origin.com, ea.com and thesims3.com

just updated java but how does not updatin it stop sims from workin?

The launcher uses java and flash player and if they are not up-to-date it can prevent you from logging in.

I assume it did not work though ?

Did you try wecantpickaname suggestion ?
