sims 3 university

so my sims have finished their first semester at the university and they're going home, but they walked over to the truck and disappeared..I can still hear them and it shows they're there but I can't control them and I don't know how to get them home or I'm going to have to start all over! someone please help (:

Does the reset sim cheat work or are they still stuck?
