On my new windows 8 Laptop, The SIms 3 keeps crashing. It wasn't too bad before, so I didn't mention it in the last question I asked, but now I can't even play! It crashes overtime I load a game file, I have NO mods, just the base game, pets, generations, and ambitions. I don't know what's wrong, my laptop is perfect in every other way, including other games such as Minecraft, so its not my laptop. I am pretty good with computers, so I can follow most instructions, please help

c:\programs(x86)\electronicarts\thesims3\game\bin

or

c:\programs\electronicarts\thesims3\game\bin if you're Windows 8 is 32 bit

or

c:\programs(x86)\origin\thesims3\game\bin if you have the download version.

Okay, so, I read in the FAQ that you posted something about a file in the base game folder for generations, I never did that manually, and have no idea if it is automatic, so, can you lead me though that? And also, for the other questions: I usually play for a few hours, it crashes during gamely (within seconds (sometimes minutes) of starting) and um, for the DxDiag, what parts should I include?

Re: Windows 8

If you are referring to the DEP (first bullet), that is a link you can actually click on and it will give you step by step instructions.

Most important is the part up to [sound device].

Please let me know if you have a switchable graphic card. That usually does not show in the DxDiag.

i noticed one thing, it says it is "Windows 8 64-bit", but then says "Current Mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)" could it be that it has to be running in 64-bit or something?

(P.S. thanks for replying so fast)

Okay, so, about the DEP thing... There is NO WAY to get to that on Windows 8! I looked everywhere in the control panel and found nothing, I started the game up again, it loaded my file, showed the game and the second I went to do a action (make my dog go home) it said The Sims 3 has stopped working,,, and it shutdown! This is EXTREMELY irritating and I need a answer or I just can't play! It sucks.

Here: http://windows8themes.org/how-to-disable-data-execution-prevention-in-windows-8.html

I was able to add it on my test machine.

As for your computer: The chip you have is below specs. It only has 32 MB of dedicated memory. The minimum requirements say 128 MB but that should not crash your game before you even load up a game.

Did you try lowering the graphic settings ? Does it happen on both existing and new games ?

Re: Windows 8

You know, that link is not what I did. Sorry about that.

Once I was on the DEP Window, I did it like I used to do for Win 7. I just found it hard to find the window on Win 8

I basically did this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-Data-Execution-Prevention-settings

and then the thing listed under To turn off DEP for an individual program by adding the ts3w.exe as I would on Windows 7.

Again, I'm truly sorry for posting the wrong link but since you got an error, it's probably a non-issue.
