Why is my serial code on Sims3 not working?

I just purchased this game online from EA Origin. It keeps saying , "The serial code you entered is invalid. Please enter a valid serial code and re-submit. Leave serial code empty to register without a serial code"

My game came with a serial code. When I'm trying to register for Sims 3 Community the code is already filled in for me and yet it keeps saying that it is invalid. I was assigned that serial code so I do not know what the problem is. Can someone please help me?
