The Sims 3 Pets only uninstalls, not installs

I got the sims 3 pets a couple of years ago in the combo pack with the sims 3, and it installed fine. about a year ago i got the sims 3 ambitions and installed it, and it still worked fine. Now, i go back to play it, and the sims 3 pets isnt installed, and when i try to install it, it only uninstalls.... help please? :manfrustrated:
