SIMS 3 Will always get stuck on 841 packets out of 890. 3 Minutes left to download and it won't finish. Repaired disk permissions, uninstalled Origin and reinstalled. Still doesn't work, and still gets stuck at 3 minutes left. I let it run all night and all it did was make my Mac get really really hot (process must have been running).
It was purchased via Humble Bundle so I have no DVD's to use for this, it has to be a download.

Here's a few trouble shooting steps: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/Links-to-Mac-help-threads-and-guides/m-p/749664#U749664
If those don't help, I would suggest posting in the mac forum at thesims3.com (make sure your language is set to US): http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/205.page since macs are not well covered on the AnswerHQ.

Specifically what I had to do, just in case anyone else has this issue. I had to go to the Settings, and then go to Advanced and REMOVE the download files for the installation process. It was most likely something was corrupt, I thought installing Origin would get rid of these files but it seems as though they are kept in a temp file of some sort. Going through the Origin client and removing them via this button is the easiest way!
Thanks again.

If you can, you should try connecting directly with an Ethernet cable rather than wirelessly as this will give a more stable connection.
Also try the troubleshooting steps in the following help.ea articles:

@Shopling Could you please describe where you're currently having trouble? This thread, and its solution, are five years old and probably don't apply to you. If you'd prefer, you can make your own thread detailing the issues you're experiencing, as well as any troubleshooting steps you've already taken.

Ok, first of all be aware that only the Base game and a few Expansion pack will run well on your computer. MacBook Airs are not built for gaming and Sims 3 is a very demanding game that does not work and play well with the kind of laptop you have. Seasons and Pets are right out as they are VERY graphics intensive and may not run at all on your laptop.
So first of all, you're having problems with the installation. Sometimes wireless connections are not very good and while it may be fine for surfing the Internet, downloading games should be done with a direct connection. This means finding an Ethernet cable to directly connect to your wireless router. In simple non computer terms, a cable to connect you to the Wireless box.
Anther suggestions was to go into the setting of Origin. Since it is the Downloads you're having problems with try this. Start up Origin. Look at the menu bar at the top and find Preferences. Check to see if you have set your Downloads (it's about the middle of the page) to "No Limit". If you have not, set both Download options to "No Limit".
Try to download again with a direct connection.
Also after you download the game, Take the time to read this thread as it will help you to install the game on your computer and clear up any additional issues you may have.

This is most likely due to a corrupted download. You need to completely uninstall everything that has installed so far then re-download and try to install again. please follow these instructions to manually get rid of all the files installed so far - https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/
Before re-downloading please run the Origin reset tool to get rid of the corrupted download and cache files - https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/
If you have antivirus installed it would also be a good idea to temporarily disable it during the installation process.
