Sims 3 pets won't open

I have just installed Sims 3 pets which was fine but now when I click on the icon to play the game nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game and I have restarted my laptop. If I just reinsert the disc it will only give me the option to uninstall the game again. Please help!!
