The game was running fine. I don't play daily, one day when I went in it would go to the first loading screen and start playing the music. Then the music stops, resumes, and then it dies.
I suspected an automatic windows update as the culprit, so when a week or so had passed and you had a patch to 1.39 I was hoping it would fix things. I downloaded the patch and it applied fine but it still won't run. I disabled custom content and tried again, no change.
Any clues on where to start looking to resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

Are you using any mods in your game ? If so, remove them. Running without Custom Content does not affect the mods folder.
Make sure to also delete the cache files
Go to documents\ea\thesims3 and delete these files
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
socialCache.package
