I installed my sims 3 game from the disc onto my computer. I updated the game then put my expansion pack (showtime) on. I open the game launcher and it asks if I want to download the content patch for the store. I press ok and it starts to download. Out of nowhere it pops up an error message saying that "the sims 3 launcher has stopped working. microsoft will close the application and notify you if a solution is found". In some instances it pops up saying I can't connect to Origin, yet when I open Origin I am fully connected, and yes, my Origin is up to date. I don't understand why I can't get this stupid game to work. I'm at my wits end trying to fix this. If anyone could tell me what to do I would greatly appreciate it.

Try resttetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps/td-p/714/
You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.
