Sims 3 combining cd and download versions

Hi, I have sims 3 installed on my computer, however my laptop is a bit broken and so now refuses to read discs. I was planning on buying an expansion pack from orgin, however will I still need to use the orginal sims disc to play it, or will it work without it? 

The sims 3 is fully installed on my computer the disc drive just refuses to read it anymore.

if you buy a digital expansion pack or stuff pack the game will play from the new one you inststall they combine for playing

if you only have the sims 3  base game a.k.a.  the normal one any stuff pack or expansion wil be fine if you have other  expansion packs or stuff packs make sure to buy one that was releaseed after the one you normally play from
