Sims 3 Seasons Wont Play With Windows 8

A friend Put the Sims 3 an a few expansions along with seasons on my new laptop. my laptop runs with windows 8. I have no cd but downloaded a no cd patch an when trying to play an error message comes on saying app cant be started. what can I do? I really do want to play.
